Official Statement from Planet Math

Pi Day was an exciting day for the kids of Bermuda. We scheduled an amazing program to encourage young ones about mathematics and careers in math. The day started with the radio show highlighting the mathematical number pi and various careers in math.

Then, we had Bermuda's pi memorization champion present a live demonstration of 1000 digits of pi for all kids to watch. This demonstration additionally featured a young Bermudian actuarial analyst that talked about her journey in becoming an actuary. However, the highlight of the day, the free gift of pies for all primary kids did not go according to plan. We were very disappointed to learn that the delivery of pies was delayed in some cases or not completed in others. We sincerely apologize for any frustration that this may have caused. We cannot undo what happened yesterday with the delivery problem, but as an organization, we have always been committed to providing amazing events for kids and fulfilling our promises. The remaining pie orders are being delivered today, and additionally, we are working towards providing something extra for the kids who did not receive their orders yesterday. We will be in touch again next week once we have the details finalized. The orders for the following schools will be delivered today:

1) Francis Patton

2) Northlands

3) BHS

4) MSA

5) Victor Scott

6) West Pembroke

7) Prospect Primary

We, the Planet Math family, take full responsibility for this. While we planned this day to honour and celebrate pi with the goal of fostering the love and appreciation of mathematics in a fun way, the Planet Math Executive Team acknowledges that this part of the celebration fell through and frustrated many people. We also want to make it clear that it is no fault of the schools, teachers, or administrators.

As you know, the delivery mishap and the associated problems are not a representation of Planet Math as an organization. We assure you that we will have a formal post-mortem of this event to ensure we learn and grow from this and most importantly, to ensure Pi Day Celebration 2024 will be a great success!

We apologize once again for the inconvenience caused and we thank you for your kind understanding."

Best Regards,

Planet Math Executive Team
